The San Francisco-based web company Cloudflare, which protects and accelerates websites online, announced its decision last week to open a new data center for every week in 2015.
This announcement comes with a mission, one that will protect millions of websites around the world from the most sophisticated cyber-attacks. To accomplish the task, the experienced and quickly growing company explained they will need a ton of data centers in every corner of the globe.
Over 1.5 million sites and growing currently use CloudFlare. Since launching just a few years ago in 2009, CloudFlare has been growing rapidly, expanding their revenue and resources exponentially.
The company’s software combines website security with Internet routing and content delivery, enabling webmasters to direct all traffic through the service in a matter of minutes.
“If you fast forward 10 years, we’d like to be in every cell phone tower base station,” said Matthew Prince, co-founder and chief executive officer of San Francisco-based CloudFlare. “The goal is to get as close as possible to the end users of the Internet. That allows us to deliver massive performance and security benefits.”
The company currently has 30 facilities throughout the globe, including 10 in North America, another 10 in Europe and four in Asia. By the end of next year, CloudFlare will have a total of 82 data centers internationally.
Many of their new data center locations will be in Asian cities, including Bangkok, Jakarta and Chengdu.
