Why Use Portable Load Banks?

Comrent is providing solutions for mission-critical power testing infrastructure.

Portable load banks streamline load testing in a variety of applications. From small to large kW ratings, portable load banks are convenient, reliable and only need to be on your site when needed for testing. They are available in a multitude of models offering different capacities, voltages and frequencies.

Portable load banks are built to transport safely to job sites, including remote locations. Once onsite, portable load banks are designed to be easily moved from one testing location to another.Portable units come in various types, including resistive, reactive, reactive/inductive, reactive/capacitive, resistive/reactive and medium-voltage. Load banks offering the fastest and easiest relocation can be carried or pushed on wheels.

One example includes DC portable units that test DC power equipment such as uninterruptible power supply (UPS) equipment, and battery systems. Another example is a small AC unit that tests AC UPS and generator equipment up to 100 kW. Portable load banks also come in larger sizes, including AC units that maintain AC power equipment up to 1000 kW.

Another example would be to bring a portable load bank that includes reactive power capability to supplement the existing resistive load bank and equipment manufacturers factory. This way the manufacturer does not require capital investment for tests that are done infrequently.

Although not as quick to move as a push-able unit on wheels, trailer and container load banks are also very portable. When mounted on trailers, load banks can be used for testing at multiple sites. A truck connects to the trailer and simply drives it from one location to another. A container load bank, although large in size, is also portable. Once on site, the load bank easily off loads from the truck using telescoping leg extensions and struts.
