With an initial investment of $1bn, the Nevada based data provider, Switch, unveils more details about their giant data center complex planned for Reno. The Reno SuperNAP has a potential size of seven million square feet and based on internal research, could be the largest facility of it’s kind in the world.
The facility will be equipped with a 300 MVA substation and 80,000 tons of onsite cooling and the entire back end of the building will be home to their first client, eBay.
While there are technology benefits to that come along with the new facility, such as connections to its SuperLoop high-speed networking infrastructure. The biggest winner here may be the community. Switch plans to invest back into the community and local education
While the company may not be unveiling all the details of this data center, the first stages of the project will be commissioned in 2016
