Four key topics were discussed a few weeks ago at the solar industry’s largest event, Solar Power International. These four themes are expected to be trends for the industry throughout the coming year.
1. Energy Storage
The most popular sessions attended were about energy storage, with speakers focusing on how solar and wind power are helping energy providers to fill in the gaps. Although speakers noted that this sector is still in its early stages, energy storage is beginning to drive value for customers in very important ways.
Speakers and panels talked about the need for more women in the solar industry. Leslie Labruto discussed the business need for a more diverse solar workforce highlighting ways that target audiences can be reached more effectively with increased diversity.
3. Growing Interest in Solar
Although not entirely a new idea, community solar interest is growing in many places around the world, a movement which was definitely portrayed and felt at Solar Power International. Communities are taking on more energy independence, saving money, and giving people better access to renewables.
4. Increased Relevance for Utilities
Utilities and renewable energy are not necessarily considered a competitor to the solar industry. As utilities bring new energy sources into their range of capabilities, a greater range of energy is emerging globally.
